My four-legged "kids" are Noel & Xena. Noel was adopted in Texas City. She was found in a park when she was a puppy and was taken to Whiskerville. Nearly 4 years old, this Lab/Aussie mix has one blue eye and one brown eye. She's very active but loves cuddling more than anything else! Xena was adopted at Happy Tails from the Houston Humane Society in April 2006. A Corgi/Cattledog mix, this sweetheart loves to chase squirrels, though she never gets anywhere near catching one! Both Noel & Xena are spoiled....and LOVED.
MICHAEL
Having been raised by a mom who was actively involved with the Humane Society, I have always had a tremendous love for dogs, especially rescues. The first pup in my pack, Denzel, was a rescue from Poodle Rescue of Houston where he had been picked up as a stray. Thinking he needed a buddy, it wasn't long before Whitney, the golden terrier mix, entered the picture from the Houston SPCA, where she had been turned in for neglect. Shy and nervous at first, she has blossomed into a real charmer and perfect companion to Denzel.
I was volunteering with Friends of BARC when I met Murphy. He was found scavaging a dumpster for scraps; he was so dirty and so badly matted that the shelter attendant said that he would likely just be put down. No chance! He was originally intended to be a foster, but his amazingly loving disposition quickly ensured his permanent residence status!
I encourage everyone who reads this to please consider making room in your heart and your home for one of these unconditionally loving souls. It's truly one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.
The Puryear Team is committed to animal rescue, routinely donating from commissions to the shelter or rescue organization of their clients' choice. Don's dog daycare & spa, Happy Tails, has provided the perfect venue for fostering dogs from Scout's Honor Rescue and Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston. The Puryear Team is actively involved in placement of rescue animals and in fundraising for the wonderful organizations that help find permanent, loving homes for abused & abandoned animals. Cindy, Jeanna & Michael are all proud owners of rescue dogs.

CINDY
I have been involved with animal rescue since adopting my very first pet over 25 years ago, Dino, a rescued lab mix, followed by Bobby, a rescued shepherd mix. I now have Mikey & Veronica in my life. Mikey, a miniature schnauzer mix, entered the scene two years ago, one of the wonderful success stories of Miniature Schnauzer Rescue of Houston. This sweet-natured little boy is energetic and playful, especially with squeak toys and rope toys. His sister Veronica came to me through Scout's Honor Rescue. Sadly, she was scheduled for euthanasia hours before being rescued. She was heartworm positive, often an easily treatable condition, and now I have made a focus of educating the public on avoiding and treating this condition in dogs. Veronica loves cuddling with her Mommy and play-wrestling with her brother Mikey.
