The land on which Memorial Park now sits was once the site of Camp Logan, a World War I U.S. Army training camp. Camp Logan is now the name given to the neighborhood bounded by Washington Avenue to the north and Memorial Drive on the South. Rice Military neighborhood’s western border is Westcott Street and Waugh Drive on the east. Rice Military has become extremely popular due to its closeness to Memorial Park, the rapid development of new homes and townhomes, and the abundance of trendy restaurants and clubs along Washington Avenue.
Houston’s Crestwood neighborhood, located a few miles from the city’s downtown and on the north side of Memorial Drive, east of Memorial Park itself, was built during the construction of the park. Different from many nearby developments because of its bigger lots and sidewalks, most of the original homes in Crestwood have been replaced with much larger homes over the past decade. But Crestwood residents have always had access to the beauty of Memorial Park. |
