Afton Oaks is a deed-restricted Inner Loop residential community of approximately 525 homes in Houston. Afton Oaks is located inside Interstate 610 between Uptown Houston and Highland Village. The neighborhood is bounded on the north by Westheimer Road, on the east by Union Pacific railroad tracks, on the south by U.S. Highway 59 (Southwest Freeway), and on the west by Interstate 610.
Afton Oaks contains many homes built in the 1950s. The civic association was chartered in 1955. The Civic Club has contracted with BFI to provide "back door" garbage service two times per week. Afton Oaks is served by the Houston City Council District G. Afton Oaks is in Texas's 7th congressional district.
Driven by a strong Houston economy and boasting a convenient location near The Houston Galleria, property values in Afton Oaks have steadily increased over the past few years. A walk around the neighborhood shows an actively traded realty market, with many recently-built homes listed for well over $1,000,000, and "tear-downs" listed for up to $500,000. The 2006 average sales price (per square foot of structure area) for homes in Afton Oaks was around $200 per square foot, up around 40% from 2004.
